Join The Associates!
BPA Administrator Elliot Mainzer is one of many employees who have joined the Associates or renewed their membership for 2017. Mainzer likes to participate in Associates activities as often as his busy schedule allows and he encourages other BPA employees to join so they can take advantage of the benefits and opportunities membership provides. He especially looks forward to events he can enjoy with his family, such as the annual picnic and the children’s holiday skating party.
“It’s a great way to build relationships with colleagues and offers opportunities to give back to the community,” says Mainzer.
The Northwest Federal Employee’s Association - better known as the Associates - is a not-for-profit 501(4)(C) organization established in 1938. Open to all BPA employees, contractors, and retirees, the Associates offers a variety of benefits and social events throughout the year.
The Associates membership not only includes BPA employees, contract personnel and retirees, but employees from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, Fish and Wildlife Service, NOAA Fisheries, Pacific NW Federal Credit Union, Office of the Regional Solicitor and U.S. Geological Survey.
Why should you join the Associates?
Benefits include discount tickets to performances such as the Broadway Across America series and Northwest Children's Theater; to sporting events including the Portland Trail Blazers, Timbers soccer and Winter Hawks hockey; and to special events like family shows and concerts at the Moda Center.
Membership dues help support the annual picnic, holiday skate party and lunch, craft bazaars, sports teams, Portland Marathon Aid Station, Hood to Coast, FEGA, softball, baseball and other activities. Through the sale of BPA logo items and emergency kits, the Associates fund $5,000 in scholarships awarded each year to students who are children of members. Last year in coordination with the Associates Foundation the organization was able to provide an additional $5,000 to local charities.
The Associates also coordinate community activities such as blood drives, holiday giving trees for veterans and foster children, food drives, and the caring and sharing program for members who lose a loved one, have a birth in the family, or experience a catastrophic event.
Now in its 79th year, the Associates is an organization for employees, contractors and retirees, run by members. As always, the Associates welcome your input. If you’re interested in becoming involved as a volunteer with the organization, contact your governor or membership representative.
